Apparently Britain does car seats differently than here in the states because there is no way the hospital's I delivered at would let me exit the building with my baby strapped in like this!
This is how you properly strap in a baby.

The clip should be at the nipple line, the straps should be tight against the chest, with only enough give to slide your fingers under. Finally, the baby or toddler should not have bulky blankets or coats between the body and the straps.
My other advice is to just follow your heart and love every minute!
